Today we went to Carriage Hill Metro-park. We were able to walk and explore wherever we wanted in the park. My friends and I went to the part of the farm where the animals are. There we saw horses, pigs, chickens, goats, and sheep. After that we headed across the street to the pond a sat on a swinging chair for a while.

We listened to music and looked over the pond. It was a really pretty view and very peaceful. Today I learned that farm life can have its struggles but it can teach you a lot about nature. I realized today that taking time to enjoy nature can have so many positive outlooks. I feel like I pushed a reset button and cleared my mind. I feel like living on a farm can make people live more deliberately because there are many responsibilities so there is a purpose and set goals but while doing so you can enjoy the beauty of the world.

I wake up early in the muggy heat of the summer morning around 6:00. I already hear my husband outside with my daughter, who is 12, milking the cows. I hurry out of bed and downstairs of our small farmhouse and get started on breakfast. I yell outside to my husband, Johnathan, and daughter, Amelia.
“Breakfast in about 20 minutes!” I see my Amelia running towards the house from the barn with a concerned face.
“The wolves must have come through a hole in the fence, the sheep are dead!” I see Johnathan slowly walking up behind Amelia.
“Okay sweetie, go inside and start breakfast. I already have everything out. I’ll be in soon.”
“I was just about to shear their wool today and now we only have a couple that aren’t dead.” Johnathan said, leaning his arm on the doorframe and wiped his face with the other in disappointment.
“Maybe we can buy more for a good price down the street at the Roberts’ farm. They are normally selling them around this time of year.” I knew we needed the sheep because a lot of the money we make is from selling their wool and clothing that I make from them.
“I’ll go up there after breakfast and see what I can do. Let’s not worry too much about it.”
I did worry though; I know how pricy farm animals can be.
After our breakfast of eggs and turkey, Johnathan went to the Roberts farm to find out how much it would be for a few sheep. While he was gone, Amelia and I cleaned up and Amelia got ready for her school day. I brushed her hair for her and tied it into braids. Before she left, she gathered all the eggs from the chicken coop, as usual. Johnathan still was not back, so I decided to go ahead and go to the merchant to sell the eggs. I left a note on the table so Jonathan would know where I went.
When I arrived home, I saw six sheep in the back of the hatch. I wondered how John could have possibly afforded that. When I found John in the barn he told be the Roberts gave the sheep to us for free because they had an excessive amount that weren’t being sold, and they felt bad about what had happened.
